If you ask for help in Helsinki, you most likely get it. People don´t always smile, but they are generally trustworthy and honest, and respond to other people with kindness.
For example, if you ask for a recommendation on a restaurant, the locals usually give you a simple and honest answer. I can imagine that this straightforwardness can be confusing to some people coming from different cultures. Our strive for honesty often exceeds the need for small talk. I myself am not very good at small talk, but I always try to be frank and honest.
